To conduct postgraduate medical education programmes to produce   specialists of the highest quality, competence and dedication for the provision of optimal humane healthcare to the people of Bhutan, through outcome-based and learner-centered curricula contextualized to the country’s needs and evolving challenges in the delivery of healthcare systems.


Faculty of Postgraduate Medicine under KGUMSB is Bhutan’s first and only Faculty in Postgraduate Medicine. The Faculty was initially established as Postgraduate Medical Education Centre (PGMEC) in the year June 2014 and formally inaugurated as Faculty of Postgraduate Medicine on 14th May 2016 by Honorable Health Minister Lyponpo Tandin Wangchuk. It was established to oversee the conduct of the Postgraduate Medical Education Programmes

The Faculty of Postgraduate Medicine is currently headed by Dean, Prof. (Dr.) Dasho Tashi Tenzin, who is into his second term as Dean of the Faculty.

This faculty offers postgraduate Course as MD (Doctorate of Medicine), as of now, the Faculty has 36 residents are enrolled from 2015 till 2018 in the 10 disciplines. The courses that are offered currently are MD courses in Anesthesiology, General Practice, Emergency Medicine, Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Pediatrics and Surgery. All these course are 4 years duration. The additional courses in MD ENT is going to start from July 2019.
